TLC is very proud of its top-rated, in-house therapy department. Our therapy services are provided by a team of well-educated therapists from diverse backgrounds. Our physical therapist has achieved her doctorate in physical therapy and is seasoned in therapeutic interventions for the geriatric population. She also has out-patient experience. The Occupational Therapy team of professionals also offer an extensive background in therapeutic interventions for the geriatric population for everything from bathing, grooming, and hygiene, to orthotics, positioning, and wheelchair management. The speech therapists are certified in Vital Stim and have participated in global programs through ASHA to promote and exchange information with speech therapists from other countries.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy
is a type of treatment you may need when health problems make it hard to move around and do everyday tasks. The goal is to restore normal movement and function while attempting to resolve problems such as pain, weakness, loss of motion, or lack of coordination. Our therapists place special emphasis on working with the families in conjunction with the resident to ensure that the plan of care developed for the resident is individualized and designed to offer the resident the best opportunity for a successful rehabilitation.
Benefits of Physical Therapy in a Skilled Nursing Facility
- Restores mobility.
- Reduces pain.
- Maximizes function.
- Reduces the chance of re-injury.
- Reduces the chance of re-admission to the hospital.
- Assists in reaching the greatest level of independence in order to return to the community as soon as possible.
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy is an essential form of therapy for those with speech, launguage, voice, cognition, and swallowing disorders. Through individualized plan of care, our speech therapy program works to restore, compensate, and/or adapt for patient's deficits by:
- Ensuring patients are on the safest and least restrictive diet.
- Increasing patient's abilities to communicate and interact with their caregivers and families.
- Increasing the patient's ability to organize, plan, sequence, and problem solve daily situations including medication management, financial management, cooking, etc., restoring patient's ability to return to prior living arrangement and/or be discharged to the safest and least restrictive environment.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists work with individuals who have physical, developmental, emotional, or social deficits that affect their ability to participate in daily activities. The therapist helps the patient with daily living skills such as the ability to get dressed, walk, or perform routine functions.
Our occupational therapy program maximizes the patient's ability to participate in the self-care, work related, leisure, and social activities of daily living. Patients who have difficulty dressing, bathing, and feeding themselves, have limitations in mobility, or who experience memory, attention, or problem-solving deficits that restrict independence and impair safety, will benefit from occupational therapy. The registered therapist provides:
- Retraining activities of daily living and/or modifying independence
- Improving upper extremity strength
- Assessment and application of orthotic devices, such as splints and slings, to assist with pain and positioning, and prevention of decreased range of motion.
- Rehabilitation dining for residents having difficulty eating.
- Assessment of home safety needs prior to discharge.
