DON'T LET YOUR LOVED ONE DIE FROM NEGLECT IN THIS PLACE, MINE DID
My son was placed here by the Public Fiduciary Dept. because he
needed 24 hr care due to a spinal cord injury and schizophrenia.
Proprietor Kim (Hu Kyong) Marshall, and her boyfriend Neil Wade
reside there. He was there 2 1/2 yrs and for most of that time Jennie,
Kims' niece, was the main caregiver. She was very loving and caring
and I didn't see anything to worry about. She moved out a few months
before he died and Kim and Neil became the main caregivers. My son
always said this place was hot in the winter and cold in the summer,
more so the winter he died. I was called unexpectedly the morning of
January 2009, as I was getting ready for work, being informed he had
passed away. It would be three months before I learned the cause was
pneumonia with congestion found in the brain, right lung, liver and
kidneys. He was only 44. That morning Peter, Kim?s brother, proprietor
of My New Home, came over and with a puzzled look on his face told
me he had seen my sons? face black. What he was referring to was the
bluish-purplish color of cyanosis the face turns because the blood is
starved for oxygen with pneumonia. No ambulance was called for him.
When I went back to get his belongings Neil told me he had to lift my
son into his wheelchair but he couldn't move it. He didn't seem to think
immediate medical attention was needed either. Also, that he had
found the heating duct to his room had been disconnected. I don?t
know if this was true or just an explanation for why his room was cold
as I had brought him an electric blanket to keep warm. Kim has gone
from saying that she just saw him and he was just fine that morning
the police were there to cold-heartedly telling me she knew he needed
911 called but didn't. He was basically suffocating to death in front of
them and they just let him die. A few months before he died my son
told me Kim was being sued by a relative of someone who had died
under her care but I don?t know the circumstances of that death. This
place puts profits above the health, comfort and safety of its residents.
Bath?s are only given once a week and my son was made to feel very
bad when he occasionally had an accident. Not a loving, caring or safe
place to be.
