Brookdale Hemet is a Hemet, CA assisted living and Memory Care munity. Our beautiful campus is located in the heart of the Island Empire just 45 minutes southeast of Riverside and 45 minutes southwest of Palm Springs. We have it all including small-town appeal, lovely views of the surrounding San Bernardino Mountains, gorgeous weather and close proximity to all of the cultural happenings in Riverside, home of the famous Mission Inn and Fox Theater, along with the attractions of nearby Palm Springs including the Palm Springs Follies. The area also offers many lovely parks where we frequently take residents, including memory care residents, for picnics or for scenic drives. And for their shopping convenience, Super Wal-Mart is close by. In addition, we are just an hour’s drive from the Pacific Ocean and occasionally spend the day out at the coast.

This area offers another big plus. It caters to retired seniors with its many retirement communities and wide range of medical services. These include the brand new state-of-the-art Loma Linda Hospital in Menifee, just 30 minutes from our community, as well as our local Hemet Regional Medical Center, many physician practices specializing in geriatric medicine and four rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities within four miles. In fact, Manor Care is just one block away where residents can go for more intensive rehabilitation services.

A Wonderful Selection

Brookdale Hemet offers an entirely different lifestyle than most assisted living and memory care communities. Residents live in one of six cottages, each with 15 apartments. Four cottages are reserved for our assisted living residents with the remaining two devoted to memory care.

Each cottage is much like home where residents eat together in the cottage dining room. Just like home, they can help themselves to snacks from the main kitchen or ask one of the staff members to make a snack for them. The main cottage kitchen is fully equipped with a well-stocked refrigerator, stove, oven, sink and cabinets and is perfect for residents who enjoy cooking the occasional meal. And just like home, residents have their own spacious living area with fireplace, sofas and comfy chairs. We hold many activities, some just for the individual cottage community, such as our morning fireside news and chat hour and, others are open to the entire community of Brookdale Hemet.

For example, we might hold arts in crafts in one cottage one week, then next door the following week. For our major events, we bring in outside performers or hold community-wide dinners and they are held in our central Community Center.

Each cottage also features a back patio off the kitchen, furnished with chairs and tables. From there, residents can stroll along the many wide paved walking trails that connect each cottage and surround the entire campus. A large gazebo, putting green and outdoor barbeques create the perfect outside living space to enjoy our consistently wonderful desert weather. All of the cottages have front patios where residents love relaxing in the rocking chairs while visiting with one another.

Residents can choose from private studio apartments and one-bedroom units with kitchenettes. Each includes a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower and built-in seats, an emergency call system in the bathroom and bedroom, nice views of our lovely campus and of course, residents are welcome to decorate their home any way they wish. Pets are also welcome to join our family.

Our memory care cottages are identical with one major exception which is that the front is secured with a special code required to get in and the back garden area is entirely secured for the safety of our residents. Like our assisted living community, the back area includes walking paths, rocking chairs, swings and beautiful landscaping. Residents can wander the whole length of both cottages allowing them to stop in to visit friends along the way.

Strong, Caring, Professional Relationships

We welcome therapists to provide services right here in the residents’ own homes. They can also work with residents outside along the walking paths which encircle the campus. What better way to get healthy and strong than being surrounded by professionally landscaped grounds, fresh air and sunshine.

Once the therapist has completed the session, he or she provides a written report which is added to the resident’s chart. Therapists frequently offer suggestions which we carefully monitor to be sure their instructions are carried out. We also have an in-house physician who visits patients right here at our community every month. And if fact, we have our own private exam room for the residents’ convenience.

Should a resident require skilled nursing care or more specialized rehabilitation services, there are several facilities in the immediate area. During the resident’s stay, we keep close tabs on his or her progress, calling frequently for updates and visiting them throughout their stay. We also carefully reevaluate their health needs to be sure additional services are in place before they return home to us. Hospice support is also very welcome here at our community so that residents can remain in their own homes even in their final days.

Staff

Each cottage has a dedicated staff which works with that group of residents on a regular basis. As a result, strong bonds of friendship often form, especially between the resident and his or her caregiver (which we call Resident Assistants). We consider the Resident Assistants to be our second set of eyes and they are with the residents on a day-to-day basis and know immediately if something is amiss, alerting our nursing staff as necessary. They not only play a major role in ensuring the residents’ well-being, but they also facilitate many of the daily cottage activities.

Because our cottage arrangement creates such a close-knit community, our staff members tend to remain with us for many years. Several caregivers have been here for as many as 12 years. They have huge hearts and are deeply devoted to affecting positive change. When they return to their own homes at the end of the day, our caregivers truly feel like they have done something to make our residents’ lives better and more enjoyable.
