Details About Brookdale Champlin

Brookdale Champlin, formerly Emeritus at Champlin Shores, is a Champlin, MN assisted livingmunity for seniors. Just two blocks off Highway 169, the major highway that connects the City of Champlin to the Twin Cities, our community is nestled in a beautiful wooded setting on a hill overlooking lovely Mill Pond. Meandering walking paths throughout our property follow the forested water line and connect to the City of Champlin Shores Trail System. Residents can enjoy exploring the natural beauty of Brookdale Champlin in a safe, protected environment or simply enjoy views of the pond from our community patio.

In addition to being located close to all kinds of stores, our "senior-living-solutions/assisted-living/">assisted living community is just a half-mile across the Mississippi River from Anoka, with its historic downtown and beautiful shopping district. We also provide transportation to local dinner theaters, movies, restaurants, concerts in the park and for our memory care residents, we take scenic drives to Elm Creek Park Reserve which is just a half-mile from our community and is a favorite destination. There are also several medical clinics and physician offices within a three-mile radius and Mercy Hospital is just five miles from Chaplin Shores. Minneapolis is only 15 miles to our north.

A Wonderful Selection

Our community offers a total of 133 senior apartments with119 that can be either retirement or assisted living apartments and 14 units that are dedicated to our memory care neighborhood. Retirement and assisted living residents can choose from studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments which are ideal for couples. All apartments are light and bright, offering either a full kitchen or kitchenette, individual climate control, walk-in showers with safety bars and generous closet space. Some also have lovely views of Mill Pond. Retirement living provides all of the same basic services such as weekly housekeeping, activities, emergency response and two meals a day. Should residents’ health needs change and they require assistance with daily living, the transition is seamless. There’s no need to move, no need to lose the friends they’ve made or leave the community they call home because they can stay in the same apartment and simply add the appropriate level of assisted living services required.

Both retirement and assisted living residents have access to our many common areas starting with our spacious, bright lobby area with vaulted ceilings and skylights. Just off the lobby is a parlor with fireplace, game tables, puzzles and a comfortable seating area. Our dining room is located on the main floor and offer residents immediate access to an outside patio where many people enjoy taking in the views of our natural setting and pond. Our community room has large windows along with a large-screen television where we often show movies. We also have a private dining room for residents to enjoy family celebrations as well as a beauty/barber shop, billiards room and amply stocked library.

In our memory care neighborhood, our 14 private studios include a full bathroom and a mini kitchenette with a refrigerator and sink. The apartments are centered around a common living area and dining room. The neighborhood also includes a private hot tub, where residents can relax  with close supervision. Residents can also take advantage of a fully secured outdoor courtyard with comfortable seating areas and professionally landscaped gardens. We are in the process of adapting our courtyard to create a new walking path with touchable flowers and plants at fingertip level to foster the sense of touch and smell. Because our community is so small, it’s easy for us to provide specialized one-on-one care which is so important because the needs of each resident are so different from one another.

Strong, Caring, Professional Relationships

From "senior-living-solutions/therapy/">physical, occupational and speech therapists to rehabilitation, hospice and companion services, any type of healthcare provider is welcome to come into our community should a resident require additional care. While we don’t have preferred providers or agencies with which we work, we can make suggestions to residents and their families as needed. Of course, our registered nurse stays in close communication with any providers who work with our residents to ensure we remain fully informed of their health status.

Our Staff

We are all family here and we care deeply about our residents and pride ourselves on being responsive, compassionate and understanding. If you were to walk down a hallway at Brookdale Champlin, you’d immediately notice the family atmosphere with staff providing comforting hugs, spending time sharing conversations with residents or enjoying an activity together.

Our Med Techs and Resident Assistants who provide daily care, go through a comprehensive home health aid course required by the State of Minnesota. And all staff members, from dietary to housekeeping, partake in the Silver Chair training program which offers a comprehensive curriculum on a wide range of issues related to caring for seniors and Alzheimer’s residents.

A Wonderful, Active Lifestyle

Both retirement and assisted living residents can partake in any one of our many activities programs. This includes our daily chair exercise, strength and balance class, weekly church services and bible studies given by visiting pastors, ongoing entertainment such as polka bands and choirs from our local high school that visit our senior living community on a regular basis and arts and crafts. We also offer several clubs such as our Walking Club which takes full advantage of the nearby trail system to our ladies’ Red Hat Society and the active Champlin Shores Choir. Games of all kinds including bridge, poker and bingo are almost always going on somewhere in our community. We also have a certified music therapist on staff who works with both assisted living and memory care residents. And of course, our activities director plans many outings to restaurants, shopping, movies and plays. In addition, we organize large family gatherings at least every few months during holidays as well as special events such as our annual pig roast. The gatherings always include a meal and some type of entertainment.

We also have a Life Enrichment Director, who takes care of planning our daily schedule for our memory care residents. One of her goals is to give them the opportunity to be involved all day, whether in a musical program, bible studies or physical activities such as kick ball or volleyball. The program also includes many activities that focus on life skills that residents may have been accustomed to doing like folding clothes, baking bread or washing dishes. Massage and manicures are also provided, ensuring that physical touch is an integral part of the care we provide. And once a week, our staff takes residents out for different events ranging from scenic drives to walks around the community.

Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community

Our community is very active with the Champlin Seniors which is an active group of older residents who sponsor several events each year like the City of Champlin’s summer festival and Father Hennepin Days and we work closely with the Champlin Seniors to co-host a luncheon here at our community which typically attracts 300 people from the community-at-large. We also have many other events throughout the year where we invite the public, from special dinners to education programs. And Brookdale Champlin always sponsors a team to walk in the local Alzheimer’s Association’s annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s to help raise money for research.

Fine Dining

Residents are served three meals a day (retirement residents receive two meals a day), beginning with a full continental breakfast with toast, bagels, fresh fruit, eggs or another entrée dish such as waffles or pancakes. Lunch is our lighter meal, during which we serve such choices as fresh homemade soup, sandwiches and chef salads. At dinner time, there is one main entrée and an alternative available that ensures residents always have a choice. Our residents often tell us how much they like our menu and say it is much like they would have made at home. We can also accommodate a wide range of special dietary needs including non-concentrated sweets for diabetics, low sodium, pureed and mechanical soft diets. Anyone touring our community is always invited to stay for a meal which we believe is the best and only way to truly evaluate our dining services.
