Details About Brookdale Lebanon

Brookdale Lebanon, formerly Emeritus at Century Fields, is a Lebanon, OR Senior Livingmunity that offers independent and assisted living services.

Although we have just under 13,000 people, our hospital, Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, has been named one of the nation’s “Top 100” hospitals by Mercer Management Company and the Healthcare Information Agency. We also have a brand new medical school that just opened in the area as well as every shopping convenience our residents could want, from a Super Wal-Mart to several grocery stores to a movie theater and bowling alley.

The Lebanon Senior Center and our town’s brand new library are within easy walking distance and our new police station is just around the corner. Across from our community is a wonderful park with lots of shade trees and our local Boys and Girls Club is next door. The spectacular Oregon Coast, where we frequently take residents, is less than two hours due west.

Our location truly is ideal. The Lebanon Senior Center is just around the corner. A brand new library with more than 38,000 fiction and non-fiction books, CDs and DVDs is also within easy walking distance. And the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital is just a half mile from Brookdale Lebanon. We also often take residents to Corvallis or Albany, both within an hour’s drive, for shopping and lunch and always for the annual Albany Veterans Parade, the largest parade of its kind west of the Mississippi. During the spring and fall, we’ll take “coast” trips to several towns on the Oregon Coast like Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Newport and Waldport which are all a scenic two-hour drive from Lebanon. Residents vote on which coastal city they want to visit and that’s where our bus takes them. Residents also love the Sweet Home Scenic Byway, a 67-mile loop, which extends southeast through the farmlands of the Willamette Valley, Foster Lake, the Santiam River and the dense Willamette National Forest. Returning to Sweet Home, it passes through the Brownsville Historic District which was settled in 1846 and is home to many well-preserved historic structures more than 100 years old.

A Wonderful Selection

Brookdale Lebanon offers 83 senior apartments including studios, one-bedrooms and nine cottages for our independent residents. We offer the largest senior living apartments in the region. Our spacious 400 square foot studios are set up to provide a small living room and separate area for the bedroom. There are three different one-bedroom floor plans to choose from, ranging from 480 to 625 square feet. All units offer high ceilings and lots of windows, kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave and a full private bath with no-trip walk-in shower, safety bars and a wheelchair accessible sink. Some apartments have views of our beautiful courtyard. Residents are welcome to bring in their own furniture and decorate their apartments any way they wish. Our 1,266 square foot retirement cottages include a very large full kitchen with breakfast bar and dishwasher, vaulted ceilings and many windows, a separate dining area, washer/dryer, an oversized one-car garage and private patio. While we take care of all the landscaping, cottage residents are always welcome to plant flowers around their homes. And should their health needs change, they can easily stay right here at Brookdale Lebanon by simply moving into our assisted living community. All of our apartments and cottages are rented month- to-month and there are no buy-in fees or leases. Weekly housekeeping, maintenance and landscaping, three meals a day and all activities, utilities (except telephone and cable), individual temperature control and a 24-hour emergency response system (three locations in each unit) are included in the monthly rent.

When you first enter our building, you walk into our “fireside” room with a spectacular rock fireplace which is a favorite spot for reading and sipping hot chocolate on chilly days. Our dining room is also very open with vaulted ceilings, tall windows and a baby grand piano. A large spiral staircase leads to our upstairs where you can see down into the dining room and into almost every corner of the main part of the building. Several common areas are located here including an activities room, full kitchen, Coca Cola room, movie/media room, library, “gentlemen’s” room and private whirlpool spa. We also have a beauty shop staffed by two hairdressers and a manicurist/pedicurist. In addition, Brookdale Lebanon has its own “Mercantile Store” which offers personal items, stationary and cards and clothing. The store is managed and staffed by residents with all of the proceeds returned to them to purchase whatever they want. Our senior living community is also built around a beautiful spacious courtyard with flower gardens, pathways, umbrella tables and a fountain.

Strong, Caring, Professional Relationships

Many residents don’t require physical therapy but should they need services, we have ongoing relationships with a variety of local care and home health providers and can secure the resources they may need. We also work with a local medical equipment company which comes in once a month to do complimentary scooter and wheelchair checks to keep our residents’ equipment fine-tuned and working properly.

Our Staff

Our goal is to provide a secure home environment in which residents always feel welcome and accepted as part of the Brookdale Lebanon family. Not only are we here to help make their lives enjoyable, but also to offer encouragement and support just like a friend or family member would should a resident be having a difficult day. Our management team which includes an executive director, assistant executive director, business director, life enrichment director, community relations director and resident care director meets daily to keep abreast of what each other is doing. We also have a registered nurse on staff as well as resident assistants who provide the majority of the residents’ daily care and med techs, who handle the management of their medications. Several staff members are on call 24/7 to respond to any needs that might come up such as a resident becoming sick and needing to be hospitalized or a family member needing to come by for a tour in the evening or on a weekend day to find a new home for mom or dad quickly. In addition, we have a weekend concierge who staffs the front desk on Saturdays and Sundays and provides whatever assistance or help residents and visitors may need.

A Wonderful, Active Lifestyle

Our senior living community which was designed specifically for assisted living, features some of the largest studio and one-bedroom apartments of any senior living community in the area including Corvallis and Albany. That’s because Brookdale Lebanon is a place where people come to live and you can feel the energy the moment you walk through our doors. Our staff strives to make sure all of our residents live the fullest, most productive lives that they can and their wellbeing is our foremost concern. If a resident isn’t coming down for meals, a staff member will knock on their door. We don’t want anyone isolated in their room. Or if we were to see someone asleep in a wheelchair, we would take them back to their rooms and help them into bed so they could have a nap in comfort. We also offer a full schedule of activities along with many off-site trips which are all geared to our residents’ specific interests. For example, one of our newer residents has incredible beading skills so she’s offered to give a beading class. After another resident had read about Spruce Goose, we worked on setting up a trip to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum which is the current home to the HK-1 flying boat. Our community truly is a family, with a wonderful and devoted staff who care about making a real difference in the lives of our residents.

At least three days a week, we offer a “Sit and Be Fit” exercise program which is geared for all levels. On Fridays, we have an ice cream social held in our Coca Cola room which has been designed in a 1950s décor. Residents’ artwork hangs in our activities room which is set up for puzzles, shuffle board, bingo and arts and crafts. Most afternoons, we have fireside chats with hot chocolate and it’s a great time for residents to reminisce about their past. We offer twice weekly bible studies as well as church services on Sunday. Wii bowling has also gotten extremely popular. Birthdays and holidays are always celebrated in style and throughout the month, we have all kinds of musicians and entertainers performing here. We also offer a variety of educational programs on Fridays when we bring in outside experts to address such topics as diet and exercise, Medicare and tips on staying healthy. Our local hearing aid and home health equipment vendors come to our community to clean and check residents’ equipment. We offer outings twice a week including shopping at our local departments stores, trips to visit area attractions, monthly pot lucks at the Lebanon Senior Center and our “let’s take a drive” in which everyone gets into the bus and we take off for a mystery destination. And occasionally, residents will help staff bake cookies for special events we may be attending such as a Chamber of Commerce function or to take to friends at the Sweet Home Senior Center. They’re also always willing to pitch in to help with mailings and other volunteer work in support of our community including volunteering at our onsite Mercantile Store, the proceeds of which are used by the residents to purchase whatever they’d like.

Partnering with the Local Neighborhood Community

At Brookdale Lebanon, we like to invite our friends in for our monthly spotlight lunches which usually reflect a holiday in that month or if there isn’t a holiday, we’ll come up with a theme. For example, during a recent September, we had a fundraiser for our local wildlife firefighters. We offer other major events to which the greater community is invited such as a recent sock hop which attracted 250 people from the immediate area for dancing and dining. Our residents helped make poodle skirts for the staff who served a wonderful assortment of food from the 1905s.

Once a month we co-sponsor a potluck-style lunch at the local Lebanon Senior Center, located just two blocks from Brookdale Lebanon. Many residents also choose to take classes at the center and attend special events. We also attend a monthly potluck at the Sweet Home Senior Center, always with dessert in hand.

Fine Dining

When residents arrive in our dining room for each meal, they fill out a menu card indicating which entrée they would prefer. We always offer two main choices at each meal, along with multiple side dishes and desserts. Our menu is extremely varied, offering delicious and nutritious choices such as orange glazed chicken, pork roast, lasagna, baked fish, barbecue sandwiches, crab salad and many more. Our dining services director and many of our dining staff members have worked at Brookdale Lebanon for several years. We attribute our low turnover to one simple reason; our dining staff loves their jobs. Once our staff has finished serving residents, they come out and join residents for meals. Snacks are available throughout the day such as fruit, pudding, Jell-O, cookies, cheese and crackers and hot popcorn popped fresh from our own popcorn machine. Hot coffee and tea are also always on hand.
