Brookdale Cy-Fair, formerly known as Emeritus at Cy Fair, is conveniently located about 45 minutes northwest of downtown Houston just off FM 1960 and close to I-290. Within a three-mile radius, there are three major hospitals including Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center which is almost in our back yard, North Cypress Hospital and Willowbrook Methodist Hospital which is part of the Houston Medical Center. Cy Fair is one of the fastest growing areas in Texas and offers all of the amenities found in any major metropolitan area such as outstanding restaurants, shopping malls, banks, medical offices and skilled nursing facilities, all within just minutes of our senior livingmunity.

In addition, we are about one hour from Galveston, a favorite destination of our residents, and we are just 20 miles to the Woodlands where every spring we take residents on a scenic drive to see the spectacular Blue Bonnets and to enjoy lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory. Other favorite outings in the area include touring the African safari at Bayou Wildlife Park in Alvin, attending the annual Houston County Fair, where every year our residents bring home many ribbons for their beautiful handmade crafts and a visit to the seaside boardwalk in Kemah which is a small town near NASA.

A Wonderful Selection

Here at Brookdale Cy-Fair, we cater to the needs of all seniors offering three different types of senior living communities which include independent living, assisted living and memory care communities. This gives our residents the convenience of being able to “age in place.”

Our one-story, 10-unit independent living community which is located in a separate building includes both studio and one-bedroom apartments, each with a full kitchen. Rent includes weekly housekeeping, three meals a day, seven days a week, activities and outings and ample parking. The community also has three common areas which are a living room/lobby area, a sitting area with television and couches and a laundry facility. Residents come and go as they please but are always welcome to take full advantage of the amenities and activities available in our Assisted Living community.

Our assisted living community offers 70 senior apartments in three studio and one one-bedroom styles. These include the Cypress Suite, a 275-square-foot studio, the 285-square-foot Cypress Suite with kitchenette and the 335-square-foot Alcove with ample room for two beds, a sitting area and two closets. This is a great option for couples. All of our studios include a private bathroom with walk-in shower. In addition, we offer the 575-square-foot one-bedroom Suite with two full bathrooms, a spacious living area and kitchenette. The Alcove Suite is ideal for residents “downsizing” from a three- or four-bedroom home and accustomed to living in a larger space.

Our one-story assisted living community also provides many common areas such as an ice cream parlor, library/sitting area where fresh coffee and snacks are served, the Dogwood Room which is the largest of our activities rooms and where we hold our exercise program, show movies on our large-screen TV and where residents enjoy playing the piano and our main dining room. We also have a smaller activities room with an indoor garden and a third activities room called the Blue Bonnet Room which has a pool table and is often the location for our popular bingo games. A private dining room is available for residents to reserve for special occasions. They can bring in their own food or we can cater it for them and families are charged just $5 a meal. We also have an onsite beauty salon that’s open five days a week. Outside, we have a large patio with a gazebo and many bird feeders making it the ideal spot for our many ice cream socials and cookouts.

Our memory care community is a fully secured area within the same building as our Assisted Living community and offers both styles of the Cypress Suite studios. Keypad security and an inner entrance provide a safe, secure neighborhood where residents are able to move around freely without being able to wander outside unsupervised. Memory care residents also have their own private gazebo and garden area with the interior apartments looking out onto the courtyard. The larger Cypress Suite is available as a Friendship Suite, in which two residents share accommodations. Many families prefer this option as it enables their loved one to bond more readily with one individual which helps prevent isolation and depression. Our Memory Care Director is responsible for pairing residents. Because she knows each resident so well, she is able to match roommates with great success.

Common areas include a living room where we hold our exercise program and an activities room where residents play memory games, do crafts, puzzles or any other activity that requires a table. The community, which is designed with two wings, offers a sitting area at each end. One promotes stimulation and has a large television, birds and various Join Their Journey life stations and the other is set up like a park with “trees” and a sitting area by the window for quiet reflection.

Strong, Caring, Professional Relationships

Brookdale Cy-Fair does not hold any contracts with specific home health and hospice agencies but we partner with many in the area and can make recommendations as needed. However, it’s always up to the resident and family members to choose whichever agency they prefer.

Residents who have just been discharged from a hospital typically bring in outside home health care providers to provide more intense nursing care whereas many of those residents who need “maintenance” physical, occupational and speech therapy use the services of the Westin Group. The Westin Group has its own office and fully equipped therapy gym on site. Its approach is more “one-on-one” based which we believe is a big benefit over providers that offer services in a group setting.

Except for a few highly specialized services such as administering IV antibiotics, we can care for most residents no matter what level of nursing services they need. If a resident does need more specialized care, we will work with the resident and the family to help them find a suitable skilled nursing facility. We have great relationships with several facilities in the area. In fact, we routinely visit these facilities and will only recommend those providers who will offer the same level of attentive care that our staff is known for. We also welcome families to bring in hospice care, whether to provide end-of-life care or to help a resident through depression or an acute period of pain. Again, we carefully evaluate various providers and only recommend those that are “results-based.”

Our Staff

Several staff members have been here more than seven years and some many more years. Part of this comes from our philosophy of not simply hiring anyone just to have a person in place. We hire only those individuals who believe they have been “called” to serve this generation. We carefully check references and conduct thorough interviews. The result is a wonderful caring staff of people who dedicate their lives to our residents.

We also have a dedicated memory care team which has received extensive training in our Join Their Journey program. They are thoroughly prepared to handle any situation that arises with tenderness in their hearts and the ability to leave their own troubles at home and climb into the individual worlds of our memory care residents.
