A private, one-bedroom in a Salt Lake City assisted living facility averages $3,191 a month (the national average $3,261), according to a recent Genworth Financial survey on long-term care. A private room in a nursing home averages $210 a day--a semi-private averages $170.
Under the Utah Department of Health, the oversees all assisted living facilities in Utah. Among other duties, this agency regularly inspects facilities, investigates complaints, and conducts background screenings of healthcare workers.
In Utah, there are eight levels of care: Home Health, Assisted Living Facility Type I, Assisted Living Facility Type II, Small Health Care Facility - Type N, Intermediate Care Facility/Nursing Facility, Skilled Nursing Facility, Hospital, and Hospice. Both types of assisted living facilities provide 24-hour, seven days a week care. In Type I facilities, residents receive minimal help with activities of daily living (ADLs) while Type II facilities provide full assistance with ADLs. Type II residents require and receive more help with mobility and general care. These are aging in place facilities.

The indoor/outdoor mall Trolley Square is loaded with restaurants and retailers. And the new Gateway District outdoor shopping mall has restaurants, retailers, a movie theater, the Clark Planetarium, the Discovery Gateway, and the Olympic Legacy Plaza. The 100-acre Liberty Park sports a lake with an island and the Tracy Aviary with its wild birds and aviary residents. The park is home to a large number of birds, both wild and in the aviary.
