Details About Brookdale Baywood

As real estate agents like to say, “Location, location, location”. That’s the perfect way to describe Brookdale Baywood. Our East Mesa location truly is ideal with virtually every type of medical facility available in the immediate area and all kinds of specialists, rehabilitation facilities, Mecasa Skilled Nursing (literally next to us), the Desert Pain Center, Swaggler Wootten Eye Care, East Valley Hearing and Banner Baywood Hospital just a half block away.

We are also located in a thriving mixed business/residential area just across the street from Leisure World and an easy three-mile drive from Red Mountain Senior Center where our air-conditioned van takes residents throughout the week. Beautiful downtown Mesa, a favorite destination for dining, shopping and attending events at the Mesa Center for the Arts, is about seven miles from Brookdale Baywood.

In addition, ourmunity is located close to many attractions in the area like Rockin R Ranche, Barleens Arizona Opry dinner shows, Broadway Palms and area casinos to name just a few that our residents enjoy. Scenic drives to Swaro Lake, Tempe Town Lake and Canyon Lake are also often on the monthly calendar, especially in May when the desert is in spectacular full bloom. Wherever our residents want to go, the Life Enrichment Director does their best to accommodate their requests.

A Wonderful Selection

Brookdale Baywood was designed as an assisted living community and it’s who we are and what we do. So every element was carefully planned to accommodate the needs of seniors looking for a more carefree, relaxed lifestyle. Our 104 beautiful assisted living apartments include a full range of studio, studio deluxe and one-bedroom units. Each offers large windows and tall ceilings to take full advantage of the glorious Arizona desert light. In addition, every apartment includes a small kitchen area with a sink and refrigerator, as well as a spacious wheelchair accessible bathroom with an extra wide doorway and padded bench seat in the shower and individually controlled air conditioning and heating. Residents are also welcome to bring in a microwave.

We are one of the only communities in Arizona to offer the Igeacom emergency response system. Residents are given a pendant or wristband to wear. Should they need assistance, they simply press the button. Every request for help is recorded so that we can monitor who responded and how long it took them to respond. In addition, there is a button on the menu that enables residents to hear the list of activities planned for the day. This gives family members and residents a simple way to take full advantage of all of the goings-on at Emeritus at Baywood.

Assisted living residents also have access to many common areas. These include a lovely well-stocked library with large windows, where residents enjoy reading the newspaper, delivered daily, as well as playing games and putting together puzzles. Our living area is the favorite destination after mealtime when many residents gather to play scrabble, cards or to socialize. Our computer room, equipped with two computers and internet services, allows residents and their loved ones to keep in touch via email. Family members are also welcome to use our computers should they be visiting from out of town.

The community also features several sun rooms, two on each floor located at two different corners of our building. One sunroom on our second floor has been designated the Men’s Club where our residents play chess and pool. And our own in-house hair salon which is also located on the second floor offers the full range of salon, styling and nail services. On the third floor is the Bay Club where we hold many events including entertainment and musical performances, as well as our weekly Happy Hour, daily exercise classes and movies on the weekend. Residents can also reserve this room for private parties. Just off the Bay Club is a lovely balcony overlooking one of our two assisted living courtyards and we have a third designated just for our memory care residents. Our dining room faces onto our main courtyard, where during the spring, dozens of beautiful lovebirds make their home.

Our memory care community offers 22 358-square-foot studio apartments with private baths and individually controlled heat and air conditioning. Apartments are also available as Friendship Suites, in which two residents share accommodations and is an ideal option for families looking to save on rent or wanting the companionship of a roommate for their loved one.

The community is gorgeous.  From the north hallway looking south are huge vaulted ceilings with arches and sconces along the wall. Memory care residents have their own common areas including a living room and just off to its side, an arts and crafts room. A large entrance off the north door, which is equipped with a piano, is our location for music therapy. Another large area in the middle of the community is used for our daily exercise program, performances, church services and pet therapy. And throughout the community are several “life stations”, a nursery, a music area, one with puzzles and games and another cooking life station where residents can replay meaningful times in their lives before they became memory impaired. The memory care neighborhood also has its own secure and enclosed courtyard with benches, bird feeders and safe, wide pathways for walking.
